About Film::Athens

A little about us from us…
Film::Athens was created in 2003 by a group of local filmmakers and film enthusiasts. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to promotion and support of production, exhibition and public awareness of film, video and digital media arts in the Athens community.

We are proud to be an official part of AthFest Music and Arts Festival
Athens’ own annual music and arts festival, AthFest, has become a permanent part of our community’s exciting calendar. For the last three years, Film::Athens has been in the unique position of being the only non-profit organization to host official AthFest events. The 2006 Sprockets Music Video Competition and project TeenScreen was our finest showing yet.

A little about us from those that make it happen…

Jared Bailey
AthFest Executive Director & Production Chairman

"The fabric of Athens arts and music scene has always been tightly interwoven. Many of the musicians are also visual artists and many of the filmmakers are working with bands. AthFest has been able to partner with Film::Athens to help showcase the many bright talents in our exceptional and unique arts community."

Jeff Montgomery
Athens Clarke County Public Information Office Information Media Analyst / Co-Owner of AthensMusic.net

"Film is often overlooked as an artistic media, so Film::Athens' approach to integrate it into AthFest and showcase its close ties to the music and visual arts scene here has been an extremely welcome and vital addition for the past several years, especially for those who were unaware of its presence locally."

Patrick Franklin
Film critic for Flagpole Magazine / Independent filmmaker

“With a music heritage like ours, the resources are already there, and not the least of which is sheer excitement. Being smart about their grand endeavors, the masterminds behind the Athens Film Foundation [Film::Athens] are beginning their journey toward a full-scale Athens film festival by first adding a film program to the already well-established AthFest.”
