Sprockets Judge Chris Cogan exhibiting 16mm films in Barcelona Spain
Xcentric : Cinema and Video on the Fringes
Art X instructor Chris Cogan will be exhibiting 16mm films as part of the Xcentric series at the Center for Contemporary Culture in Barcelona Spain in May. The CCCB produces exhibitions, debates, and festivals and encourages creation using new technologies and languages. The bold, shameless films of Nelson/Wiley, the anxious animations of Martha Colburn, the ingenious visions of Jorge Flores and the strange worlds of Christopher Cogan reveal cracks in the expected roles and gestures of the media; they parody the use of bodies and portray strange actions that configure a wrong theatre. These are disinfectant films that disfigure and compulsively corrupt media representations of popular culture to create a unique, disturbing filmic world. The aim of Xcentric is to promote greater awareness of "confidential" art that is timeless, which moves on the fringes, unperturbed by the one-way traffic of commercial circuits. These cinema and video projects challenge imagery and redefine the medium. Xcentric sets out to recover these "secret" works by means of the public's personal experience.
Christopher Cogan is a multi-media artist and filmmaker who teaches Video Installation and Experimental Media at the Lamar Dodd School of Art in Athens Georgia, USA. He is a graduate of the Ecole d'Art d'Aix-en-Provence France.
